Kobe Bryant, former Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard and five-time NBA champion, has tragically passed away Sunday morning (Jan. 26) following a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. He was 41.
Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was among those killed in the crash. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that there were no survivors. He is survived by his other three daughters and his wife, Vanessa.
Following the horrific news, many Latin artists, among them basketball aficionados such as Bad Bunny and Anuel AA, expressed their deepest condolences on Instagram.
“I would never have imagined that this would hurt me so much!” Bunny penned. “I still remember the first time I saw a basketball game, at age 7 with my dad, and it was a game of this genius. From that day on he became my favorite player forever!! I have never mentioned it because it does not necessarily have to do with music, but this man has been an inspiration in many ways for me to be what I am today,” read part of his message.
Anuel said his hero died and that he was crying with a broken heart. “You left your mark in the world. May God continue blessing your family and give them strength. Your name will live forever.”
