Midem 2020 Taps Fred Davis, Justin Kalifowitz and Kerry Trainor for Artist & Label Services Keynote

This year's conference will focus on artist and label services.

Midem 2020 isn’t until next June, but the global music industry conference already has its first keynote on the bill. The Raine Group partner Fred Davis, Downtown Music Holdings CEO Justin Kalifowitz and SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor will discuss artist and label services, reflecting the key focus of this year’s event.

Their opening keynote on June 2 will cover the development and future of services that help artists release, promote and monetize their music around the world — giving unsigned artists more control over their careers than ever before.

“With DIY and independent artists representing the fastest growing segment of the industry in terms of revenues, growing 35-40% year-on-year, the music industry is facing a new turning point,” commented Davis, the son of legendary record executive Clive Davis. “There is an exciting opportunity to further empower these artists and rightsholders and allow the entire industry to generate significantly more revenues. In this context, metadata is more than ever a critical issue we need to unify around. Midem is uniquely positioned to host such an important conversation as it welcomes all its stakeholders.”

Midem is also announcing the launch of an Artist and Label Services Forum at the 2020 conference, which will include a marketplace for artist/label services and digital distributors to showcase their solutions; a demo stage; a workshop space for artists, managers and indie labels; a job board; networking events and more.

“By creating the first ever Artist and Label Services Forum at Midem, we aim to further serve the global music community and provide concrete solutions for new artists, entrepreneurs and the industry’s needs,” said Midem director Alexandre Deniot. “The Forum will unite existing services for artists and labels across production, marketing, sales and promotion, rights management and more. Combined these elements can help boost artists’ careers and provide solutions for labels to support their artists around the world.”

Midem is set for June 2-5, 2020 in Cannes, France.
