With the new Apple iOS 13 update, Spotify users can now ask virtual assistant Siri to play their favorite music, podcasts and playlists across iOS and iPadOS, the company announced on Monday (Oct. 7).

To utilize the new feature, users must say “Hey Siri, play *insert name* on Spotify.” For example: “Hey Siri, play Billie Eilish on Spotify” or “Hey Siri, play Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness on Spotify.”

“Yow you can listen to Disney Hits or an exclusive podcast like Set It Straight with Midland at work, home, on the commute, while exercising, or doing chores, all by saying the familiar ‘Hey Siri, play…’ to hear the audio you want,” Spotify said the news release. “Just make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 13–from there, remember to end each phrase with “on Spotify.”

Siri support for Spotify is available for iPhone, iPad, Carplay, AirPods and HomePod via Airplay. Spotify also revealed that a new Spotify app will be available on Apple TV.

The update comes seven months after Spotify filed a complaint against Apple with the European Commission (EC), the executive brand of the European Union, in March 2019. One of those complaints included Siri’s limited functionality with non-Apple apps such as Spotify, and in turn, was favoring its competitor Apple Music.

Apple released a statement in March 2019 responding to Spotify’s complaint. In terms of Siri integration, Apple responded that “when we reached out to Spotify about Siri and AirPlay 2 support on several occasions, they’ve told us they’re working on it, and we stand ready to help them where we can.”

Other music streaming apps, such as Pandora, can also be accessed via Siri when updated to iOS 13.
