Apple Music Announces New Shazam-Powered Trending Chart

Apple Music has launched a new trending chart powered by Shazam that will highlight and predict rising artists on the music discovery app.

Apple Music has launched a new trending chart powered by Shazam that will highlight and predict rising artists on the music discovery app. The Shazam Discovery Top 50 will highlight the top 50 songs from emerging artists that are trending in the US and 10 other countries —  Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain and the U.K. — which should give the chart greater diversity than emerging artist charts solely utilizing U.S. listener data.

Apple says there are more than 20 million “Shazams” every day and the company will use that data to predict the artists it thinks will be next to break through to Shazam’s more mainstream charts and into the public consciousness. Shazam Discovery Top 50, which will update every Tuesday, will incorporate more countries into the chart in the near future and is exclusively available on Apple Music.

The move is the latest in a string of updates and additional features Shazam has rolled out over the summer. Back in June, the app rolled out the ability to recognize songs with your headphones in and earlier this month Apple Music incorporated Shazam data into its new Apple Music for Artists platform, giving even deeper data and analytics to musicians.

The Shazam Discovery Top 50 Chart is available now on Apple Music.
