Khalid took to Twitter on Monday (Aug. 5) to announce that he’s planning to hold a benefit concert for the families of victims of the El Paso, Texas, mass shooting later this month.
“Over the past few days, I’ve been thinking of ways to help out and support the city,” the pop/R&B artist who lived in El Paso during his senior year of high school wrote. “I’m planning for a benefit concert later this month, all of the proceeds will go to the families affected by the shooting. Sending everyone my love and will keep you guys updated.”
He added: “Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy. Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking. Singing ‘915’ and ‘city of El Paso’ on tour every night feels indescribable.”
On Saturday, 21-year-old Patrick Crusius shot and killed 20 people inside a Walmart in El Paso. Khalid was born in Georgia, but his family moved to El Paso when he was a junior in high school and has adopted it as his hometown.
